Northern General Hospital

Northern General Hospital, Accident & Emergency Refurbishment, Sheffield

The A&E refurbishment was a multi-phase project in a live environment which included the mechanical services to the recently completed CSSD (Clinical Sterile Services Department) project and the ongoing CDU (Clinical Decisions Unit), Trolley and Bay and Resus areas.

The former CSSD was completely remodelled to provide office and staff changing accommodation.

Careful planning of the various phases was a key component in the success of the project as Wrights faced a number of challenges within the constraints of the building. The A&E Department had to remain fully operational 24/7 while the works were being carried out with no disruption due to the critical nature and sensitivity of the areas.

Despite a significant amount of the project being designed and co-ordinated as each phase was made available from the client, each handover and schedule was not compromised due to the strength of the teamwork.
